Asian flavor meets a hidden arcade cocktail lounge, and yeah, it works. This is SUPERBON on Halmtorvet, flavor-packed Asian cooking in Copenhagen's Meatpacking District, served inside what feels like a vintage Hong Kong cocktail lounge.
SUPERBON sits on Halmtorvet in Kødbyen, and the room does a lot of the talking: plush velvet seating, glowing table lamps and a bar that feels straight out of another era. Then there is the twist out back, but we will get to that. The menu pulls from all over Asia with bright flavors built to share.
We went for the tasting menu, which gives you a bit of everything. Salmon tartare with lime and trout roe to set the tone. Wagyu carpaccio, sliced thin with citrus, sesame and a scatter of herbs and flowers, plated to share. Crispy fish cakes with a golden crust, soft center and the kick of kaffir lime and lemongrass, dipped in sweet chili. A watermelon salad with fresh mint, Thai basil, sesame and a sweet-sour glaze, light and full of contrast. Then the bao, fluffy and pillowy, packed with beef and herbs, one of the best bites of the night. Charred chicken satay straight off the grill with a red curry dip and pineapple relish. A cool coconut dessert to finish, not too sweet.
Head to the back and things get unexpected: retro arcade machines, moody lights and a full cocktail lounge hidden away. We played some Double Dragon, then had to order the Double Dragon 2 cocktail. Ice-cold beers in frosted glasses, cocktails with real personality.
Come with a group, do the tasting menu, then take the drinks into the arcade for a high score. Good food, solid value, and the most fun back room in Kødbyen.
