There is a legit new dosa spot in Copenhagen, and if you have not tried it, you are missing out. This is Dosa Bar on Gammel Kongevej in Frederiksberg, and as the name suggests they do a mean dosa, plus a lot of other South Indian delicacies. We were invited.
Dosa Bar sits on Gammel Kongevej and fills a real gap in the city: proper South Indian food, the lighter, crispier, chutney-and-sambar side of the cuisine that Copenhagen has been short on. It is casual and focused, exactly what you want for this kind of eating.
The masala dosa: crispy, filled with soft spiced potato masala, served with sambar and two different chutneys. You rip off a piece, load it up and enjoy, and it is exactly as satisfying as that sounds.
Medu vada, savory lentil doughnuts with a crisp crust and a soft, fluffy center, perfect for dipping and soaking up flavor. Idli, soft steamed rice cakes with a light, almost cloud-like texture, delicate and comforting. Then the tomato uttapam, thick and soft, topped with fresh tomatoes and spices, the perfect vessel for more of that sambar and the homemade chutneys. A refreshing raspberry smash and a mango lassi done right to drink.
Come hungry and eat with your hands, that is the whole joy of it. It works solo for a quick, comforting lunch or with a group ordering across the menu so everyone gets a bit of everything. Simple food, big South Indian flavors, and nothing quite like it nearby.
