3 Cheap Eats in Copenhagen That Overdeliver

Copenhagen has a reputation for emptying wallets, but you can eat seriously well here without the fine-dining bill. These are three of the best cheap eats in Copenhagen right now: a retro diner running pasta from 99 kr., a 12-dish Indian feast built for sharing, and unlimited tacos with free-flowing margaritas. Maximum table, minimum bill.

Palazzo Diner: Pasta Club from 99 kr. on Axeltorv

Good vibes, great pasta, and a deal that is hard to beat. Palazzo Diner on Axeltorv leans all the way into cozy retro diner charm, and from Sunday to Wednesday the Pasta Club takes over: pasta from 99 kr., pasta plus a starter or dessert for 179 kr., or all three courses for 199 kr.

The signature spinach carbonara is the one to start with, vibrant green, perfectly al dente and silky, with heaps of grated cheese on the side. The baked rigatoni alla vodka is the comfort pick, and there is always a pasta of the month if you want to gamble. Bookend it with arancini or whipped ricotta with bread, and finish with panna cotta or the chocolate lava cake, warm and gooey against cold ice cream. We were invited on our visit.

Juma: the 12-dish thali feast in Nørrebro

Modern Indian with bold flavors, beautiful plating and serious value. At Juma on Ryesgade in Nørrebro, the star is the thali: a 12-serving sharing feast where every bite is made to be mixed, from green moong daal and aloo curry to tandoori cauliflower, melon chaat and mint basmati rice.

The thali starts at 175 kr. per person, and count the bowls when it lands: that is one of the best value spreads in the city. Want to go all out? The full Juma Menu at 315 kr. per person stacks the thali with cauliflower pakora, fried chicken, their smoked-butter butter chicken and a vanilla soft ice dessert. Kids under 12 join the thali for 100 kr. with crispy chicken and mango soft ice, so it even works as the family move. We were invited.

Mæxico: Taco Tuesday and unlimited everything

Full fiesta energy, three locations, and prices that let you order one more round. Mæxico serves some of the city’s favorite tacos in Nørrebro, the city center and Vesterbro, so it is never far away.

The cheapest trick in town is Taco Tuesday: show up after 20.15 and it is 1.5 hours of unlimited tacos and burritos for 169 kr. per person. Any other night, the All You Can Eat & Drink at 399 kr. buys two hours of unlimited tacos plus free-flowing margaritas, beers and aguas frescas. Aim for the braised beef with escabeche and the pork pastor with smoky ancho, sweet pineapple and tomatillo. Sundays add birria to the mix, and the City location even runs tequila bingo. Bring a group and it turns into the cheapest party in town. We were invited on our visit.
