Jade sits on Stormgade, right next to Tivoli, and the room is a big part of the draw: a large, beautifully designed space with some of the best service in town. The menu draws on Thai, Japanese and Cantonese traditions, so Thai spice, Japanese precision and Cantonese richness all share one sleek menu.
We started with a Chinatown cocktail from Jade’s creative drinks menu. Baby shrimp, all fried and hit with lime and dipped in mayo, addictively good. Then fried chicken spiced with the numbing kick of Sichuan pepper. Takoyaki topped with dancing katsuobushi, classic and comforting, with homemade pickles so good we ordered a second round. Cold sesame noodles, silky straight-up comfort, paired with a chilled cucumber salad spiked with chili and Sichuan pepper. Then the wild card, grilled duck hearts served with daikon, pickles, Thai basil and pancakes, like a little taco. Tamago kake, rich egg yolk over premium rice with trout roe, simple but luxurious. And sticky pork cheeks in a spicy Sichuan sauce with fresh pomelo and aromatic herbs, prepped tableside.
