Step inside one of Copenhagen's most stylish and immersive sushi experiences. This is Umi Sushi in Valby. Step past the black facade and you find giant screens playing drifting fish and lush forests, a dining room built to hit all the senses. We were invited.
Umi sits out in Valby on Vigerslev Allé, and it commits hard to atmosphere: a blacked-out interior, dim lighting, table spotlights and those big screens setting the mood. It is more of a vibe than a quick sushi stop, which is exactly the point.

We kicked off with fresh salmon tartar topped with chili, trout roe, sesame and chives. Then handcrafted nigiri: fresh salmon and tuna, flamed tuna, spicy tuna rolls and white fish, each one fresh and beautifully made. A little break to take in the surroundings, then two kinds of gunkan, shrimp, more flamed treats and a sweet omelette bite. Rice paper rolls with tuna and crisp vegetables, light and clean. Then the yakitori section, from shrimp to ribeye to bacon-wrapped goat cheese.

Do not forget the cocktails here. Beautifully crafted and balanced, and as easy to drink as they are to look at, with garnish that earns its own photo.

This is date-night and special-occasion material, where the room is part of the meal. Go all-in on the all-you-can-eat if you are hungry, or keep it à la carte and graze, either way you are there for the full immersive experience.
Stylish sushi, cocktails and yakitori, and a room that does half the work.
But now… the real question is… where do we go next?
